Industrial site to nature park
Today the site on the corner of Pere IV and Josep Pla sits empty waiting on development of a new apartment complex. It is one of many sites nearby caught between the industrial heritage of the area and an emerging residential and commercial district.
We see an important role for the site today: as an interim nature park and refuge for local residents in need of more green spaces. The hardier species of plants have already made a home between the concrete and bricks. The removal of more of the old factory floors, and application of growing medium and native seeds, would accelerate a transformation to green space today.

Proposal
Today approximately 30% of the total site holds some kind of vegetation, we believe this can be further developed with the addition of a light layer of growing medium to extend and better support existing plant and insect life. The remaining 70% is a mix of concrete and brick flooring of between 15-20cm (some of which has recently been broken up). For this area of the site we propose breaking up the remainder of the concrete, removal of the bricks for re-use, and the application of growing medium and indigienous seed mix to the site to help nurture a temporary nature park for the coming years.
As well as nature enhancements, local residents could benefit from:
- Access paths using existing aggregate to cross the site and immerse in nature
- Small recreation points within the space
- Animal and insect species living on site and travelling through to support the local natural ecosystem that supports us.
